He served in the United States Air Force so his burial was at Miramar National Cemetery. This man was amazing! He served his country, family and friends like we all know we should. I have a deep respect and gratitude for the things that he taught his family because they are instilled in my husband.
Because it was a military burial the flag was laid across the casket and then folded by the honor guard. I have a profound respect and gratitude for the men and women who serve our country. They are amazing to me, and it makes my heart swell with pride in our country. After they had folded the flag, the officiator told us what it meant. The blue stands for loyalty, the white for purity and the red for sacrifice. When the flag is folded properly there is no more red showing because the sacrifice has already been given. It gave me goosebumps and as those who serve and had served in the military saluted the flag I wept a little, out of gratitude for all they have done for us!
I am grateful for the incredible man that the pilot is and for the values which he taught his children and the kindness with which I was always treated!

Monday Top Ten

In no order of specific dislike:

1. going to Firestone ( i really don't like it! The Politician called me and said, "What are you going to do today to celebrate being an adult?" I told her I was going to be adult and actually attend all my classes. Thanks I thought it was funny too. :) It was great though, Slugger really made it an awesome day!
I have always been weird around birthdays though, I don't really know why. Probably has something to do with the fact that I am weird, letin' my freak flag fly high!
No but really I think that it has to do with expectations, I have always expected a lot on my birthday (say a surprise party for the first 23 years of my life), but as I have gotten older it becomes just a day and I get sad. Sad about no more cinnamon rolls to take to school and share or phone calls from loved ones. But yesterday I had no expectations, I knew that Slugger loved me and was working hard and I knew that I was giving myself the day off from homework and as honestly crap like as that sounds it was enough! (ok ok I knew I was getting some awesome bike shoes a new helmet and bondibands) but really I was happy and as we went out to dinner it was enough to be with my best friend. Maybe that was my gift maturity for the day, great gift.

hate to tell you but my immaturity came back today "If the pockets are hanging out of your shorts THEY ARE TOO SHORT!"

Here he is the best Birthday present ever!

Awkward Moments... the crust of (my) life

I used to love Awkward Moments! Truly they are fantastic, as long as I am not involved and can watch as a bystander or by chance facilitate one, it used to be the bread to my butter. Now it's... well it's awkward. I'd like to think that this attitude change occurred because I am a much better person but I think in reality they started happening to me more, which is not near as fun.
Before you all get judgy judgy you know you love them to, like the "I don't remember your name so I'll wait for someone to say it then I'll talk to you" and when no one does the "Oh Hey...you". Or how about when you see some women with her pants hanging half off her behind and something akin to dental floss coming out. "Listen lady buy a belt, panty lines are not the devil, what we just saw was."
Of course this morning when I had by far the most awkward thing happen ever... I forgot the Dancer's birthday... Not the oh it's your birthday I didn't call, try... oh I sent a birthday text like 5 days early and was super excited because for once I was doing the whole birthday thing right and the text was like a billion pages long. And in response I got you know it's not my birthday right? Son of a biscuit burner!
So in honor of the awkward turtle I am giving an awkward turtle award to myself. And to the dancer I give my sincerest BFF apologies! Not invite people I've never seen but big like no skimping on the invitations everybody invited type of thing. So here is my idea we'll see if I actually do it-
Favorite things health party... ok so I saw this idea on Pinterest ( and I actually want to do the things I see) so the party is basically where everyone brings their favorite things like 5 of the same thing and people get to go home with something new to try. Cute Idea right? Well I wanted to do it better, I want everyone to bring something that they use to stay healthy or their favorite health "thing", ex. like a smoothie recipe, fav workout, running route, vegetable, side dish, motivation ... the list is practically endless. Here is the problem... where the heck would I put everyone? So until I figure out the location the idea is on hold. But fear not I will follow through or so we hope right? So for now I will leave you with this motivation

It cracks me up everytime... mainly because on one of my training runs I look over in this store window and this is actually what I looked like Hooray! Oh yes, I have just become the 98098989898 person to post about this terrific event. I was so excited, until some loser posted a fb status about how SD has only enough water reserve for 1 day for everyone. Thanks a lot meanie! But it was great we had candles and talked (and by talked I mean Slugger fell asleep while I consistently asked "Are you even listening to me?"
To which I got a grunt of acknowledgment. (Same thing parents did to me when I would try to come and chat with them after my exciting nights) good thing I know what it means.
Anyway I LOVED it!
Troy also got a surf board which I have decided not to post a picture of because I don't want to. Hiyah! take that blogging world.

By the way we went to a wedding! in Ohio. Yeah I was there and if you are from OHIO and live there and I didn't call you my b. I was tots mehgots busy (pronounced like it sounds)
But the wedding was lovely in case you are curious who it was it was the Horse Trainer and the Dancer and they are a lovely pair! All are in the organization category. Slugger and I have had about three weeks of pure and utter chaos. (And yes we took no pictures these past three weeks, and I don't feel the least bit bad.) And now that (hopefully) chaos has retreated into the dark I hope to get a little more organized.
Ok since you asked what kind of chaos :)
Slugger's brother came home about three weeks ago from a mission in FIJI. Slugger was very excited, seeing as how he hadn't seen him in two years. So we had all the hoopla that was associated with such happenings. I have also been busy teaching young minds ( I can say that because I am older than most of them) the wonders of human anatomy.
And now there is calm.

But as I look through my calender I see that almost every night this week I have something. Oh how I sometimes miss my recluse days in San Diego, where I didn't know anyone... but it is a fleeting feeling! Lorna's right it can be addictive.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://troyslamminblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/living-in-continual-chaos-is-exhausting.html' title='"Living in continual chaos is exhausting, frightening. And yes as a matter of fact is was quite the adventure. It was all kinds of awesome and not awesome.
Let me start with the negative and end with the positive (yeah I am a nice person). So I am not a huge fan of animals, sorry no other reasons than I have never really been their biggest fan. Neither has Slugger though BUT much to my surprise his MT dream list included horseback riding. That was not on my list. But because I really do love Slugger I said yes and almost lost my life more than once, ok not completely true but basically horses and I don't get along-
Here are some wonderful pictures for your viewing pleasure. By the way if you think I wore the same clothes everyday, you'd be close to right (Thank you Calories in )
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mv4_iOlI2hc/Tie2rYrVc5I/AAAAAAAAAH4/iCg3cwGV7bE/s320/DSCN5423.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631670715524936594" />
Didn't know I married Tom Sawyer did you?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M1tOEwUb8Oc/Tie3Djd-PuI/AAAAAAAAAIA/XanDoM0Mab0/s320/DSCN5461.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631671130738540258" />
Hiking in Glacier Nat'l Park.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kydo_GUR4_Q/Tie3Yj5kQCI/AAAAAAAAAII/7wsIe1E5-2Y/s320/DSCN5470.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631671491631530018" />
One of the many beautiful creations we saw.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nLaKRy-sUi8/Tie35B32-EI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/7QgyzhMVIM0/s320/DSCN5548.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631672049433245762" />
My Rodeo debut...otherwise known as I almost lost my life!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_cFZGNv2Nm4/Tie4c9AUzpI/AAAAAAAAAIg/1ipCKq38kkk/s320/DSCN5553.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5631672666601868946" />
My Rancher husband.. if numbers were an animal then yes this statement would be true.
Now most of you probably wonder when this post will stop, lucky for you I don't want to post anymore tonight. Kids used to come up to me and say, "My dad can beat up your dad." I'd say, "Yeah? When?"

(Just so you know I never did this)
Dad, Father, Pops, Dude are the select few that we hold in reserve for those key men in our lives. Usually for Slugger and I it is something like pop-pop (we get it, you don't have to). Anyway I never really got Father's day and Mother's day. I hated the fact that I felt as if I was forced to be nice to my parents for a whole day. This concept was incredibly lame and selfish to me (and I usually screwed it up by fighting with the Turbos).
Don't mistake this as I don't appreciate my parents because I do. But it really annoys me that the world sees it as one day a year.
But of course here I am conforming to the worldly wisdom of one day a year set aside to honor our parents.
I don't share our personal feelings often but it is important that you know the two great men that are our fathers. (Two you say? well with marriage we both immediately inherit another. BONUS!).
Shakespeare is my (biological) pops. He is quite the guy! Not much I can or want to say besides that he is my friend He is and was and will always be there for me.
The Comedian oh he is different from Shakespeare (in the little things). Granted having only been his daughter for a year there is still a lot to learn, but this guy has some serious skills. He tells jokes and stories like nobodies business, and they are really funny! On more than one occasion it has brought me to tears.
There are so many similarities between each. Both serve faithfully in their callings and in their families. The love which each has can be seen in their eyes and the respect and love they have for their wives could not be hid even if they wanted to. The love, compassion and service that Slugger and I have learned from these two men is to say the least immeasurable. Pops you guys deserve more than one day a year (I guess that is why you have birthdays-- only kidding :) )
Love, Slugger and Student
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ts8j0_j-R0c/TgIjpTwK-KI/AAAAAAAAAGc/OIGhW1ivsYY/s320/039.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5621094477495728290" />
This Guy
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HxYydH5Fjes/TgIj9Zmj5pI/AAAAAAAAAGk/K2I87S6D7D4/s320/148.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5621094822663415442" />
That Guy

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://troyslamminblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-never-got-along-with-my-dad-kids-used.html' title='I never got along with my dad. Is it? No I made that up but that basically sums up last Saturday. Now before you become distraught with the thought that Slugger and I are not actually grownups and that we like to play in the mud let me put your mind at ease. First we are the most ungrownup grownups around and second just Slugger played in the mud last Saturday.
Slugger's company participated in the Camp Pendleton mud run and that was exactly what it was a mud run. The course was a 10K and had a huge hill (like most courses in CA do) but in addition there were mud walls and a 6ft river they had to cross and at the end a mud pit(started out as a water pit and slowly turned to mud). It was disappointing to me that I couldn't see the course except for the mud pit but it was entertaining.
Having participated in more races than I can count over the years I have never watched one. It was different to be a spectator but different good in that I could ease drop on conversations occurring around me. Slugger did great! I am so proud of him! Oh and guess what kids. You'll never believe it. No really guess. ok I'll just tell you... I took pictures. That's right I (meaning Slugger) remembered the camera! So here you are! Eat your heart out!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ls2h3V7pICg/TfuSk5y5t_I/AAAAAAAAAF8/kDkK6eZOQso/s320/DSCN5190.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5619246122762090482" />
This was before the runners went through.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9I8F489CcMQ/TfuS9pYaUcI/AAAAAAAAAGE/rqZWmaAu7oI/s320/DSCN5191.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5619246547852743106" />
Slugger crawling through the Mud Pit. Their eyesight, yes.

Yet again TCR and I failed to take any pictures. On Monday after yet another forgotten camera night I said "I have no pictures to post on the blog!" (shows all of you doubters my renewed dedication to our blog doesn't it). Anyway... we have no actually pictures but I have decided to include some fake pictures, that I will just pretend I took.

So as you can tell we did go to a Padre's game last week and we had FANTASTIC seats! Thanks to TCR's second mom our seats were so great! Thanks Rodeo Queen! Anyway the game was entertaining and the Padre's lost (no surprise there).
We did have the chance to learn a little bit about the trolley's of San Diego. If you feel a story coming on you would be CORRECT! Ok so TCR and I decided we were going to take the Trolley, and me with my OCD wanted to make sure that we knew every detail. But not wanting to have that responsibility I delegated (another one of my many talents) to TCR. We get to Qualcomm and we get the tickets and we wait. And the trolley comes and we both decide that it can't possibly be OUR trolley because it is two minutes early and so it leaves. After about five seconds we realize oh hey that was the trolley and we totally just missed it. By the end of the night we had pledge to give our first born child to the city of San Diego Parking.

This is what the trolley looked like pulling away from us.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 165px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lSqUfr2f5SU/Te-wKT2RtaI/AAAAAAAAAFU/G5ZoUDzOldQ/s320/PICT2435.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615900951527404962" />
This is what we did when we realized what scubs we were.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ADWXap3fZ9g/Te-wzepFB8I/AAAAAAAAAFc/J-IGlW_fMUA/s320/2077782.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615901658799474626" />

Softball tournaments are LONG. TCR (who will from here on out be named Slugger)played in a softball tournament with his cousin B and Scary Larry last Saturday. This is the second tournament which he has played in and I have decided that I will cheer for family to do well but I can cheer for the team to not do their best. Sorry but i'm burnt, hungry, and my butt hurts!
Slugger wanted to slide- his left leg now looks something like this-->
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 297px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j8bQOkWRjVM/Te-zcehlSKI/AAAAAAAAAFk/-L3vuFhWB70/s320/leg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615904562165926050" />
but worse.

Slugger in the second tournament looked something like this
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-79RhQsJBjNk/Te-0T20UWfI/AAAAAAAAAFs/Ev8i2aoArrE/s320/38957_415169739569_839634569_4421483_5778685_n%25281%2529.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615905513579764210" />

The goal is to have some real pictures for the next post... but if I were you I wouldn't hold my breath.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://troyslamminblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/i-never-questioned-integrity-of-umpire.html' title='I never questioned the integrity of an umpire. Summer vacation is here everyone. Except for all those that have real jobs that require real work. That's ok I forgive you! :)
Well for starters let's discuss the new year's resolution. You all should have known when I said I made it my new year's resolution it was never going to happen. :) Sad as it was we are back and coming to you with a vengeance. Oh yes a Richey family coming to a computer near you! (sounds like an excellent film title- quick ramble: the movie would be excellent full of violent beatdowns and the like. Just kidding the beatdowns are a lot of talk not so heavy on the beatdown am I right Nicki?)
As a side note for all those grammar fools out there- I either use very little or too much punctuation and I won't apologize! (Not worry pops I always edit my papers before I turn them in)
Man! All I do on here is update, so instead here is a fudate (a future update). I have been a Richey for almost a year! (yes big round of applause everyone thank you thank you!) It is awesome! The best part is having brothers I always wanted brothers (i thought I would do well with brothers too) Sisters are fantastic but you always want what you don't have right? Before you feel bad for my sisters because of my slander (well i guess libel) they have always wanted a brother too! Ask them! Anyway it's great but like I was saying the best part of the best part is Grandpa O asking me every time I see him, "didn't know what you were getting yourself into did ya?" I am still trying to determine if I should be frightened or excited, maybe the family is secretly zombie killers and I haven't been initiated yet. I am ok with that though because after watching Zombieland that is a great skill to have.
Anyway TCR and I are planning an epic trip across the north here soon. We will be able to see lots of good friends and loved ones and boy are we stoked (especially since the last road trip we took was terrible (our honeymoon)) Before you think I am a terrible wife he agrees and stated it first!
BTW did you see the blog spiffy right? I know I am on vaca and don't feel like doing anything but fudating my new blog.
That's all for now!
EXCEPT: OUR NIECES (AandK)ARE RODEO EXPERTS! They are AWESOME! Roping, sheep riding (i forget the technical term) and BARREL RACING. They are pros! And little nephew E going to be a pitching superstar! Just don't stand too close when he goes into his windup.

Slackers...yeah we know we are but what are you?

OK OK OK sorry we know we are not the best at the whole posting thing... (Don't worry it's my new years resolution). We also both are completely terrible at taking pictures.

So here is your update or THE update, eh whichever. :)

So Troy started his job. HURRAH! It is fantastic to have some mulah coming in. (Old news but new to some)

I quit my job and I am doing school, but am now looking for a new job. I also got accepted to San Diego State University, (another hurrah!) and will start there in January.

Thanksgiving was spent at Mom and Dad Steed's it was WAY fun. Dad and I ran a 10k (let's not talk about that part) in Topanga (Boy meets world anyone?) National Forest. It was absolutely the most dreadful and wonderful run at the same time. It was fantastic! We both ate a lot and stayed for about a week.

Then we had the Christmas time start almost immediately. :) Troy's work party and finals and shopping all made December go by very quickly. It was such a great time though. Troy's work party was a lot of fun (he works with the coolest people!). My finals went well (thanks for asking :) ) Aced both of my classes, therefore I have been promoted to balla status.

Then came the Christmas parties and oh did they come. This past week Mom and Dad Steed and sisters (plus cousin) came down to San Diego. We went to the beach, and the temple and had overall a really great time. Then we went to Mom and Dad Richey for Christmas and it was a lot of fun as well. We got to talk to Elder Richey, and eat (more than I should have) and spend good time with family. Christmas at the Ott's was the next day and again more eating and tomfoolery. Then that night Troy and I drove up to LA and spent Christmas with Mom and Dad Steed and the fam. It was also fantastic. Eating and tomfoolery. Troy and I enjoyed church at the Stevenson Ranch Ward and went home later that day. Finally we had our Christmas. It was a lot of
fun, full of legos and movies and again more snacks. This whole week although it was quite the whirlwind of adventures was a lot of fun.

The week after Christmas is always full of exciting adventures as well- We will have to wait and see what it brings but it will be something we won't want to miss. This season is filled with a lot usually, and we can easily forget the "true meaning of Christmas" but something I realized through all of events and fun and traveling, is this; How in the world could I forget Christ when I see my family who is sealed together for time and all eternity around me. This would not be possible without him. Family is the greatest gift we have received this year. The expansion of more people we love.

Oh and all that food, sure did leave me a little gift too... extra work this week and for the rest of the month. (And it won't get better for awhile).

Underwater Camera 2 -The Adventure Continues

<img style="display: block; I admit it. I don't stay on top of it and I should. This past month has been a little crazy for us. I recently got a job at a gym as a personal trainer. It is a bit of a drive but money is money. I also start school this month and I can't tell you how nervous I am. All the time that I have spent in school you would think that this time with only 2 classes would be a breeze... yeah not so much.
Troy keeping up with the same old same old. Studying, Snorkeling, Showering ( I couldn't think of anything else he has done with an S).
We have had the chance to see family and for me to spend more time getting acquainted with these lovely people. We are so grateful for the chance we have to live so close to all of them.

All of these wonderful opportunities that are given to us we are incredibly grateful for.

As a side note: Today we were at the temple and there were some couples there getting their pictures taken after the ceremony. I had a brief moment of nostalgia that only 2 months ago that was us, and I never in my wildest imagination would have imagined this life for me. Now don't get me wrong I love it and wouldn't change it for the world. But who would of thought a year ago that I would be married, living in California, going back to school, and living this life. It goes to show that the Lord knows what is in store for us and how things are going to pan out. Sometimes I think that if I can't imagine it than it won't happen but shame on me for the lack of trust in him.
I offer a piece of advice from this very long drawn out post... That although you think your life is headed in one direction or another, please consult the Lord. He knows what is going in much better and trust me he provides the best comfort through trials than anything else. Just ask him, he is waiting for you to ask. I love my Heavenly Father and I am very grateful for my wonderful husband. Things won't always be easy but I know the Richey team can make it and it will be worth it. We love you all!
( On a funny note, because this post was so serious.... I just thought of Kayda's farting robot. What a funny kid! We love those kids!)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://troyslamminblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/im-farting-robot-im-farting-robot.html' title='I'm a farting robot... (not entirely true but just go with it). Both of us LOVE going to the beach and taking walks, doing life planning etc. but recently we have become so excited with the idea of WATER SPORTS! We realized that there are a bajillion things to do in the water and we now want to do ALL of them. The list includes but is not limited to: scuba diving, ocean swimming, snorkeling, sailing, ocean kayaking, and surf boarding. We are really excited about the endless possibilities that the ocean provides. We absolutely love the ocean and we are incredibly grateful to live so close to it!

The Married life begins

Update time- although we are pretty boring at this point. We got completely moved into our apartment. FINALLY! Once everything was put away I cleaned the entire apartment, I was so excited to have the floors vacuumed, and mopped- and everything cleaned. My parents will probably faint when they see this - seeing as how my room was never clean but I guess things change when you get your own place. Troy and I love our apartment, location, and the complex included.
We haven't really done a whole lot lately: Troy has been studying for his CPA (like ALL the time), and yesterday he started on the ward softball team. As for me I completed the THANK YOU's which I have decided are not enough to thank people for their kindness but I guess they will have to do :) We really like our new ward and being married is pretty fun. We are so grateful for our families and friends!
We have a lot of big events coming up but mostly we are just hanging out. I am getting familiar with the area still- running is a little frustrating because of all the lights and busy roads but hey I hope I will get used to it soon.
Pictures as I promised here are a few-

A New Adventure!

Troy and I after much thought have decided to start a blog.(Troy started the blog FOREVER ago but never posted... That's where I come in :) ) I know such a follower, but with family and and dear friends across the country we want to keep them updated on the exciting happenings in San Diego!
Troy and I were married about a week ago today. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful! Everything was perfect and we could not have asked for a better day. We are both so happy and have already had some amazing times. Neither of us wanted a stressful honeymoon, after moving and graduation we really just wanted to take it easy. We decided to take the new Richey clan up the coast. WOW! We had such an incredible view of the ocean and mountains. We hit up a few of the tourist spots like Hearst Castle, Monterey Aquarium and San Fransisco's Fisherman's Wharf. We really had a lot of fun and although the week is coming to an end we are still really excited because tomorrow we move into our first apartment! We are both so grateful to our family and friends for everything and especially for all the love and support.
A special shout out to THE GANG for a bang up job on the car! You know who you are ;) Pictures to be posted soon!
